Reflection

I consume media a lot. Every day I am on social media for at least an hour. Usually, it ranges from two to three hours though. It really changes how I feel about myself and about others. The fact that you can learn so much or not learn anything at all from social media is crazy. On social media, there are two types of people you could be. You could be the one that does not show your true self or you can be the one that does. A lot of people judge and make assumptions off of one person's post or off of what they are tagged in. Being aware of my social media consumption is very important. And after writing these blogs I realized how people can be effected easily and quickly. Off of one post, someone can screenshot and make assumptions, and tell their friends, to make it into a rumor. My habits for social media have changed a bit. I have been focusing more on being myself then someone who I am trying to be. I want people to like me for me, not for this perfect girl who lives a luxurio

harm to oneself

These days and even a lot back then, girls and women harm themselves because they are not good enough for others. A lot of girls and women are down on themselves because they do not know who they really are, so they put a lot of pressure on themselves. Pressure can cause stress and self harm like cutting or the start to depression. It is mainly based on social media and how standards are set for women and girls. Standards specifically, and the fact that men are and will always be better than men.  So, women strive to be perfect and in the process they realize how hard it will be to be that perfect woman, so their solution is to hurt themselves. Today is more important because technology is advancing and we can't find who we really are. We are either our real selves or something that social media made out of us.

societal looks

In merchants of cool they were showing pop stars like Britney Spears. These artists and other pop stars are influencers upon teenagers. The videos and pictures posted by them are what make teenagers  try so hard to fit in. If Britney Spears wore this skirt in her video, and I wear it to school I will be cool. Picture after picture on social media, create an idea of what teenagers, especially girls, have to live up to. The standards are set high, and a lot of teenagers spend tons of money to fit these standards. It still happens to this day with an example of Kylie Jenner. We want to be as beautiful as the models on Instagram and Snapchat, so we photoshop and edit our pictures for hours to look a way that society wants us to look.

To make it clear this is just my opinion, and you can agree or disagree. But, I think that the fact that people post global warming issues, plastic issues, or animal extinction/harm on their instagram stories is not necessarily stupid or unnecessary, but posting about an issue won't necessarily help that issue. If you post every day about how turtles are dying, the turtles are not being helped. It might spread the news about them, but things won't happen until someone takes action and starts an organization or something. Also, some people can just be posting because they want to be part of the group of people that are helpful and that care for the environment. But, if you truly cared for it, you would take action. Some people will just post without even thinking about what the issue is.

instagram ads

When you are on Instagram, scrolling through peoples posts, and liking pictures, do you ever click on an advertisement to buy something? There are a lot of advertisements on Instagram and some people just scroll right past them. They act as just a normal picture on your feed when you are scrolling through but if you stop on the picture it has an option to buy. Personally, I feel like not a lot of people actually use Instagram to buy clothing, shoes, makeup, etc. Instagram is more used for showing off those items. Buying things on Instagram is very different to me. You have to go to someones page, and click the link in their bio, and it will bring you to the website that you have to search for what you want. Also, it is easier not on Instagram, because on Instagram you can easily misslip your finger and slide down, loosing your place on what you were going to buy. Just by going to the website itself is easier and you can see more of what they have.

I think that it is weird how multiple people, that are adults, go around and look for kids and teenagers to get the look on what is new and in style. I think that it is very important though for bigger companies and even some small ones to know what teenagers like, because teenagers spend a lot of money on stupid stuff. So, if companies come out with things and ideas that teenagers will love and enjoy, they will buy them. Teenagers spend money on things to fit in and to be part of the trend. So, with going around collecting this data, companies and other businesses can know what to advertise and spread the word about.

Instagram getting rid of the number of likes

Image
Recently, different social media platforms have been informing people that instagram might get rid of the number of likes shown on a post. I think that it would not be a big of a deal for some people, but for others it will be an issue. For most people, they just want likes and comments, they do not actually want the satisfaction of just posting because they love their friends, etc. Personally, I have gotten a lot better about posting things more related to my personality and more dealt with my friends and my affection for them, also my family. I used to ask my friends if I should post a certain picture, but at this point I do not really mind, because whatever picture I post, it will be represting my personality. There was a competition that went wild, just having to do with likes. The world record egg. I think that it is so dumb that we care about likes so much. The amount of likes has nothing to do with who you are as a person, and I think getting rid of them will be amazing, especia
